Dozer work for building lots and acreage

We run bulldozer services out of Burleson, TX, for building lots and acreage across the Fort Worth area. That covers southern Tarrant County and northern Johnson County, including Crowley, Mansfield, Joshua and Alvarado. Our dozer work covers land clearing, pond dams, building pads, rough grading and spreading fill. Each dozer service job starts with a free estimate, priced at the property.

Decades of demolition and dirt work stand behind Texas Best Demolition, which launched in late 2024. Its team ran dirt work and roll-off dumpster businesses before, and about 20 people work here today. A very large ranch pond is in progress, alongside 17-18 house demolitions running at the same time. Tell us about your dozer job, and we will come look at the ground.

What can a dozer do on your property?

A dozer is a heavy machine with a wide steel blade, built to push and shape the ground. When we clear cedar and mesquite off acreage, the dozer pushes the brush into piles for loading. On ranch land, the blade helps us cut and shape stock tank and pond dams. On a building site, it cuts and builds house, shop and barn pads to the elevations the builder gives us.

The same blade handles rough grading and leveling on lots with ruts and low spots. When a lot runs short of dirt, the dozer spreads fill that our trailers bring in. After we tear down an old house, the dozer pushes the lot back to grade. At the estimate, show us the plan or tell us what the ground should look like when the dozer leaves.

Dozer, excavator or skid steer: which machine fits the job?

A dozer pushes, spreads and shapes, so it fits open ground where dirt or brush has to move. An excavator digs, loads trucks and pulls root balls out of the ground. Skid loaders work the tight spots, like the strip beside a house. Our excavators start with a compact Bobcat E88 and go up to Kobelco 140, 270 and 350 machines. Beside them we run dozers, wheel loaders and three skid loaders.

On a clearing job, the dozer and an excavator often work the ground together. HomeGuide says clearing with bulldozers and excavators works well for complete site clearance before construction. The same guide says this method removes everything above and below ground but disturbs the soil heavily. HomeAdvisor's excavation cost guide notes that larger, faster rigs can cut job time. That is why we match each machine to the work at the estimate.

Do you need a permit or an 811 call before dozer work?

Any dozer job that digs needs an 811 call first, and some need a city permit as well. Texas law sets that call at least two business days before digging, not counting weekends or holidays. Inside Fort Worth, land disturbance of one acre or more needs a Grading Permit. The city counts clearing, grubbing, grading, excavations and embankments as land disturbance, along with moving or stockpiling soil. Fort Worth lists that permit at $950 plus $25 per acre, plus $50 to apply and a $16.87 technology fee.

Fort Worth requires an Urban Forestry Permit before land clearing unless the ordinance exempts the lot, and an approved Fill Permit before fill goes down. Grading in Burleson must comply with Ordinance No. B652, and the city requires a Notification of Grading. In unincorporated Johnson County, development and floodplain items go through the county. Texas Water Code 11.086 bars diverting or impounding natural surface water flow if the overflow damages another property. Under Water Code 11.142, a stock tank on your own land holding up to 200 acre-feet for domestic and livestock use needs no state water-right permit.

Dozer Work on Johnson and Tarrant County Clay

Much of the ground across Johnson and Tarrant Counties is heavy clay that swells when wet and shrinks when dry. After rain, a blade cannot cut a clean grade in wet clay, so bulldozing waits for the ground to dry. That same clay is what a pond dam needs. The Texas Farm Ponds manual from AgriLife says compactable soil with at least 30 percent clay keeps seepage down. USDA's pond handbook rates clays and silty clays as excellent for the watertight layer a pond bottom needs.

We spread fill one lift at a time, and each layer gets packed before the dozer pushes out the next. TxDOT Item 132, written for highway embankments, caps a lift at 16 inches loose or 12 inches compacted. That is one example of a written spec, and a pad gets its spec from the builder's or engineer's plan. We build to that plan, and a testing lab handles density tests when the plan calls for them. On a pond dam, the same lift-by-lift packing helps keep the water in.

What's the hourly rate for dozer work?
HomeAdvisor's excavation cost guide puts excavation equipment with an operator at $100 to $250 per hour. The same HomeAdvisor guide puts combined labor and machine rates for excavation at $120 to $150 per hour. HomeGuide's excavation guide says most excavation equipment operators charge a minimum of one day or eight hours. To price your job, we come out and look at it, and the estimate is free.
Can you use a bulldozer to clear land?
Yes. On our clearing jobs, the dozer pushes brush into piles and an excavator pulls root balls. HomeGuide puts light clearing of shrubs, underbrush and small trees at $1,200 to $2,500 per acre. The same guide puts moderate clearing at $2,500 to $4,500 and heavy clearing at $4,500 to $8,000 per acre.
Can a dozer build a stock tank or pond dam?
Yes. Dirt from the basin goes into the dam, and the dozer pushes it up and shapes it in packed layers. Clay soil holds water best, so we look at what the ground is made of before the dam goes up. For a pond holding more than 200 acre-feet, the Texas Farm Ponds manual from AgriLife recommends professional consultation.
Do I need to call 811 before dozer work?
Yes, according to the One-Call Board of Texas. Under Texas law, you or your contractor must notify 811 before any digging project, even in your own yard. Allow at least two business days between the call and the start, and do not count weekends or holidays.
Will dozer work change how water drains onto my neighbor's land?
It can, because a dozer changes the shape of the ground that water runs across. Texas Water Code 11.086 forbids diverting or impounding natural runoff in a way that damages a neighbor's property by overflow. Before the dozer starts, we look at where water leaves your land today and talk through the new grade.
Do you haul off the brush and dirt?
Yes. Our own trucks and trailers carry the brush and extra dirt off as part of the job. The haul side runs on three roll-off trucks, about 75 roll-off dumpsters and high-side end-dump trailers. If you want the dirt kept for a low spot on your land, the dozer can spread it there instead.

Why Choose Texas Best

Why Fort Worth-Area Property Owners Call Texas Best

Decades in the Work

A demolition company was built and sold here before this one. The company is new; the experience running it is not. About 20 people keep 17-18 house demos moving at once.

A Machine for Every Job

A Bobcat E88 fits through a backyard gate. A Kobelco 350 brings down a commercial building. Dozers, wheel loaders and skid steers fill the gaps, so the machine matches the lot.

Haul-Off Is Ours Too

Three roll-off trucks and about 75 dumpsters belong to the company. Debris leaves on our schedule, and the quote covers the finished state: teardown, loading, hauling, cleanup.

Southwest Metroplex Ground

Burleson is home. Fort Worth, Arlington, Crowley, Mansfield and Cleburne are short drives on known ground. The clay moves around here, and the dirt work is planned for it.
